It is an island with historic monuments dating from ancient times to the Byzantine period, picturesque villages with small marble-paved streets and traditional products, and events and exhibitions displaying a host of artistic activities. You can get there by sea from Piraeus (between three and five times a day during the summer) in 3 hours and 15 minutes (high-speed ferry) and 5 and a half hours (conventional ferry), or by airplane from Athens in 35 minutes.
